Diana Haro is a filmmaker from Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. Haro is also an award-winning film producer, her work in the movie America’s Family was awarded both the Grand Jury Award and the Audience Award for Competition Features at the 25th annual Dances with Films festival in Los Angeles, California. Her personal projects such as the documentary, Portrait of Absence was awarded a grant from the Mexican Institute of Cinema, this grant was only for one documentary story in her area. The project A Road Awaits was awarded five international prizes among other recognitions around the globe. Haro is a proud member of the international filmmakers collective and nonprofit Brown Girls Doc Mafia.
She has immersed herself in a process of learning and self-discovery through the moving image and her work on film as a film consultant. Her personal film work is informed by her life experiences as memory exercised through feeling. She seeks to transform the literal into the poetic, working with the falsity of memories to give them new meaning through film structure and narrative.
Haro earned a BA in International Affairs with a Diploma in Production of Contemporary Art from the Autonomous University of Baja California and Relaciones Inesperadas. In 2018 Haro relocated to Mexico City where she studied Production Design in Film Diploma. With this experience Haro was able to develop experience on set assembly, with the different types of techniques that involve the art direction process that she applies when she works as a film consultant for productions such as her last short film Pen, Again.
The same year she was selected for a grant to study the independent film program To write, To film, to Live, at The Higher School of Cinema in Mexico City with Paula Markovitch, an award winning filmmaker. She studied in 2019 an Autonomous University of Mexico Program in Audiovisual Production
